 On May 23, 2009, from 10 am to 4 pm, PamCham’s CSR committee headed by Ms. Leslie B. Mendiola of JB Woodcrafts of Betis Guagua, Pampanga treated 40 children of member companies’ workers to reading, feeding and flu vaccination. The activity was made possible through the generous support of pamcham members and directors.
Upon arrival at the venue, the kids immediately participated in coloring activities and games. Prizes for best colored pieces were given to the talented kids. Crayons used for coloring were donated by Mr. Jojo Tanglao of Tanglaw Pawnshop. Ms. Diane Dela Fuente-Tiongson of Cabalen, read three inspiring stories to the kids to emphasize the importance of reading and the lessons that can be learned through these books. She even sang to them and advised them to pursue reading even at this young stage in their lives.
Lunch of nutritious chicken arrozcaldo infused with malunggay was served to the kids by Ms. Myrna Bituin of Betiscrafts and Zesto juice drinks donated by Director Jesse Yap of GQY Distribution Inc., quenched the children’s thirsts. The kids, after being given a thorough check-up, were inoculated against influenza by respected pediatrician Dra. Leticia Yap of the Makabali Hospital in the afternoon.
The children were entertained by their favorite Jollibee mascot who danced with the kids and Director Malou B. Garbes. Jollibee also served burgers for the kids’ merienda in the afternoon, courtesy of PamCham Vice President Jess S. Nicdao. Director Terry D. Carlos, owner of Mary the Queen Academy of Pampanga generously allowed free use of MQAP’s all-purpose hall for the committee’s project. At the end of the day, the kids were sent home with loot bags filled with candies, Gatorade, envelopes of school supplies and books for them to read at home.
Funds for the project were sourced from the proceeds of the recycling program of the committee and also from the generous contribution of PamCham directors and members who “adopted” a child for the day. These are PamCham Chairman Levy P. Laus of the Laus Group of Companies who “adopted” five kids, President Rene Romero of the ROMAC Group of Companies also five kids, Director Marco Hizon of Hyundai Pampanga also five kids, Patrick Guanzon of GG & G Trading three kids, Director Malou Garbes of MBG Realty two kids, Atty. Paul Yusi of Royal Security two kids, one child each for Director Terry Carlos, Director Jim Jimenez of ACSAT, Den Wijangco of Sta. Isabel Realty, Aisa Laus-Manalili of Chevrolet, BM Catalian Bagasina of Fast Cargo Forwarders, Darell Garbes of Garbes Trading, Cris Cura of Asia United Bank, and George Sorio of Cybercity.
