PamCham sucessfully held its 26th General Membership Meeting and Induction of New Members on May 28, 2009; 11:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Carworld Showroom, Jose Abad Santos Avenue, City of San Fernando Pampanga. Attended by the crème de la crème of the business community in Pampanga, Carworld showroom was packed with members and guests donned in their best business suits and barong tagalogs.
One of the chamber’s aspirations since its inception in 2004, is to encourage the wearing of business suits or barong tagalogs of its members and guests,- on occasions such as the General Membership Meetings and Conferences. Business men and women should always exude professionalism, integrity and reliabilty, and these qualities will initially be determined by how they project themselves to their potential clients and business partners.
Carworld is very significant for PamCham because its conception and launching as a provincial chamber was at this historic place. Moreover, Carworld was also the command center for the strategic defense planning of PamCham’s predecessor – Save San Fernando Movement and before it San Fernando Chamber of Commerce - back in the 90’s when the province was suffering from the destruction of Pinatubo and its lahars.
Guest of Honor and Speaker for the chamber’s 26th GMM was Former DTI Secretary Cesar B. Bautista, now of the National Competitiveness Council. The Ambassador expounded on the private sector’s role on the competitiveness and economic progress of the Philippines. He stressed that businessmen must compete in an arena where they are certain to have a fighting chance at winning or excelling; otherwise it will be an exercise in futility to compete where one is at a disadvantage. According to him, “True competitiveness is gauged by a country’s productivity which in turn is measured by the value of goods and services produced per unit of the nation’s human, capital and natural resources.” He further noted that “Productivity is a concept familiar to all of you. It implies efficiency in the production of goods and services. It implies raising the value of goods and local incomes, which in turn leads to increased wealth. When one talks of competitiveness, the target is not exports per se but improving overall prosperity and wealth.”
PamCham also inducted 17 new member companies into its growing roster. The chamber now has 276 members. They were sworn in by Chairman Levy P. Laus & President Rene G. Romero.
