 PamCham organized a Disaster Risk Manangement Briefing facilitated by PHIVOLCS Director, Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. to educate and expound on the disturbing pronouncement of a magnitude 7 or 8 earthquake purportedly hitting metro manila. PamCham decided that an expert’s credible explanation of the science behind the scary phenomenon is necessary – this way, panic is dispelled and the appropriate measures can be undertaken to minimize damages to property and lives.
PamCham Chairman Levy Laus appointed Director Levi Hao to head PamCham’s Search and Recovery Team which is in response to Director Solidum’s challenge for the chamber to be proactive on efforts at reducing the severity of injuries during times of disasters. The private sector was requested by the Philvolcs Director to assist and support their local government before, during and after the occurrence of a disaster. He added that awareness and preparation are the key factors in saving lives and lessening the destruction to properties and infrastructures.
