ImagePamCham had the second largest number of delegates to the 18th North Luzon Area Business Conference hosted by the Baguio Chamber of Commerce held at the Baguio Country Club Ballroom. All sixteen delegates took off for the City of Pines early morning of August 20, Thursday to attend the two day conference. Led by Chairman Levy P. Laus (LAUS GROUP OF COMPANIES) and President Rene G. Romero, Directors Malou Garbes, Terry Carlos, Cesar Ocampo, Reggie Fabros, Jesse Yap, Jim Jimenez, Boy Bituin, Levi Hao, Marco Hizon; along with members Myrna Bituin and Jay Carlos lent their full support to the NLABC with the theme ONE.GLOBAL.FILIPINO, ‘Yes WE Can!... Business Beyond Usual’. The conference presented the current “Beyond Usual” circumstances confronting business, as well as the “Beyond Usual” opportunities and distinct advantages which the North Luzon region in particular, possess that must be given due attention and promotion by all sectors concerned, i.e. government and private sector alike. The focus was on the enhancement of our country’s competitiveness and productivity complemented by the strengthening of the domestic demand to neutralize the declining demand of importing countries adversely affected by the global financial crisis.
Tourism was identified as an engine for growth and development because of its extensive multiplier effect on the direct and indirect industries involved. It is well suited for economic stimulation because of its labor intensive characteristic, its extensive multi-sectoral supply chains and strong foreign exchange earning potential.
Industry and Government are advised to drive domestic demand and extend support to the backbone of our economy – the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises or MSMEs. Business chambers are urged to adopt supportive role to local businesses in the form of trainings on entrepreneurship, accounting for small businesses, getting financing, developing markets, packaging,  economic intelligence, data collection, etc.
Overall, the 18th North Luzon Area Business Conference achieved its objective of inspiring and motivating local entrepreneurs to continue doing “Business Beyond Usual”.
