PamCham meets on mall traffic anew PDF Print E-mail

ImagePamCham’s Infrastructure Directorate headed by Director Bong D. Mah once more met with the management of SM City Pampanga, Robinson’s Starmills, City of San Fernando and Mexico LGUs, DPWH, along with the management of East Gate Subdivision to review the outcome of the recent traffic flow re-routing and adjustments of the concrete barriers along the JASA fronting the two malls.  Likewise, the committee also followed through on the agreements arrived at during the initial meeting of the group last October 13, 2009.

Present during the meeting were from DPWH – Engr. Ethel Manalo and Almer Miranda; from Mexico LGU – Engr. Jess Punzalan; Mexico PNP – Psupt Ferdinand Perez; CSFP LGU – Gen. Ramsey Ocampo and Kevin Ronquillo; CSFP TMD – Kevin Ronquillo; CSFP PNP – P/Insp Rexon Layug; from Robinsons – Jerico Singian, East Gate – Roberto Galvan; SM City Pampanga – Roselle Sarmiento and Engr. Marni Castro.
Although congestion had been significantly relieved in the area, certain causes of traffic bottlenecks had been additionally identified. In particular is the improper location of the pedestrian overpass and waiting shed near it which induces passenger jeepneys to load and unload in the area which contributes significantly to the clogging of vehicles. To solve this problem, it was suggested that the waiting shed should either be barricaded with immovable metal barriers to discourage loading and unloading, or ideally, be removed altogether.
Meanwhile, the LGU of Mexico, represented by Engr. Jess Punzalan announced that as a result of the agreement last October 13, the San Fernando-Mexico Boundary Arc will be removed, considerably widening the area and opening up another lane, alleviating this particular choke point along the JASA. The DPWH, for its part committed to level off and add another lane once the arc is removed. SM, Robinsons and East Gate also proposed the temporary re-routing of vehicles during the demolition to their respective parking areas.
For the second time, a positive meeting of minds of stakeholders was realized by PamCham’s Infrastrcture committee composed of Director Bong Mah, Roland Liwanag, Roger Santos and Conrad Pacla. This encourages the chamber to relentlessly pursue countryside development and progress through its coordination, cooperation and collaboration with both the Public and Private sector in Pampanga.
Another follow up meeting will be set early January 2010 to once again review the result of the agreements.
